Heriot-Watt University Collaborative Design Project

Updated: Aug 12, 2023

We are very excited to announce that over 200 students from Heriot-Watt University will be using the Broadway as a case study next week!

Starting on Monday 12th, Year 4 undergraduates in Architectural Engineering, Civil and Structural Engineering, Construction, Urban Planning, and Geography will be working in multidisciplinary teams for a major design exercise called the Collaborative Project. There are no other classes: the students will be working on the Broadway intensively for the full week. Their brief? To come up with solutions for the Broadway that reflect your - the community's - hopes and wishes. On Friday 16th September there will be a public exhibition at Heriot-Watt University where you can browse the results of the student's work and ask lots of questions. We also plan to display the work at an upcoming event in the Broadway itself, as well as publishing some of the projects via social media so stay tuned!

The Friends of the Broadway have been consulting far and wide on the initial plans for the building. You have spoken and we have listened, let's see what young future building professionals can do to bring your ideas to life. Lots will be happening in and around the Broadway next week, including site visits and a guest lecture live from the Broadway. We can't wait to see what the students come up with!

In the meantime, we have been giving our cinema some much-needed TLC! Clearing debris, sweeping floors and making the building safe for the site visits next week. We will be posting every day from Monday 12th and we are very excited to experience the project along with you!
