We were delighted to celebrate 2023's Prestmas festivities with a foyer open weekend of milestone moments for our project!
On Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th our foyer was open to the community once more, as our Art Deco entrance doors opened up to reveal a projectionist's winter wonderland! Our trio of donated projectors were on display to the public for the first time, and in a regional exclusive, the first 35mm film was shown in Ayrshire for over a decade! Demonstrations took place at set intervals throughout the day courtesy of our chief projectionist, as the magic of film was brought back to life in 2023.
The weekend also marked a historic moment for the Broadway, as the first cinema tickets were sold from the original ticket booth for the first time since the final screening of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in 1976! The Broadway Christmas Film Festival officially launched, and patrons were overjoyed to reserve their seats from the Broadway's foyer, many for the first time! The foyer also featured all-new Christmas decorations, including a beautiful tree donated by Eden Garden Centre in Dundonald, and a heritage display with items taken from our collection that will one day form the exhibits of the Museum of Scottish Cinemas.
The event then concluded with a very special lights show of our own! The Broadway's former café was illuminated once again in a dazzling display to help celebrate Prestmas and bring life back to the Broadway's upper floors. The weekend was a great success and we were absolutely delighted to welcome you all to the Broadway this Christmas!
In fact, it was so good, we're doing it again!
We're opening our doors (again!) for the second time in two weeks this Saturday 9th December from 10:00 to 4:00! If you missed Prestmas or still haven't got your tickets for the Broadway Christmas Film Festival, then this Saturday will provide the perfect opportunity to walk through our Art Deco entrance doors once more! Our 35mm projectors will be on display again too, and our chief projectionist will be back in attendance continuing the testing phase of our first Victoria 5, and the restoration of our second Victoria 5, and the former ODEON Ayr's fantastic Rank RK60!
Elf, It's a Wonderful Life, The Muppet Christmas Carol and Die Hard are all coming to Prestwick this holiday season, and even if you can't visit us in person on Saturday, you can still book tickets right here on our official website.
