Collaborative Design Project Exhibition (Heriot-Watt University Edinburgh)

Updated: Aug 12, 2023

On Friday 16th the Collaborative Design Project for the students of Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh came to a close with a public exhibition of the final designs. The Year 4 students from Architectural Engineering, Civil and Structural Engineering, Construction, Urban Planning and Geography came together to work intensively over one week to complete final design proposals for the future of the Broadway.

We were incredibly honoured and excited to take part in this project and we are extremely proud of each and every one of the 200+ students who took part. Many of whom also took part in in-person site tours in the Broadway itself, virtual site tours streamed live from the building and were lucky enough to attend the wonderful lecture by historian Bruce Peter on the history of the Broadway, Alister MacDonald and Scottish Cinema.

The 26 finished design proposals were all focused on delivering a vision for you, the community of Prestwick! With some wonderfully innovative ideas, revolutionary renewable technologies and beautifully presented designs, our director Kyle and the team of lecturers at Heriot-Watt behind the project were able to speak to each team and decide upon four winning designs, two for the final design itself and two for the teamwork shown throughout the project. An additional congratulations and thank you goes out to each member of those winning teams, and everyone who took part in the Collaborative Design Project!

We are delighted to again inform all of our members and supporters that we will soon organise a Community Open Day in the Broadway to showcase these final designs, and hopefully invite many of the students to Prestwick again, to share with you personally their own visions and give us all the opportunity to openly engage and discuss plans for the Broadway's future!

In the meantime, the Heriot-Watt students in Dubai are still hard at work! Their own project is still in progress at the Dubai Knowledge Park and we will soon announce further news from the United Arab Emirates.

Thank you again to everyone from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh who made the Collaborative Design Project possible and we can't wait to share with you the students' final designs!
